    Thank you so much for caring about the animals who come to Best Friends.

    There are no fewer than 1,500 dogs and cats and other animals from all over the country at the sanctuary on any given day; most of them in need of special attention. Your donation helps make sure we can give them the best care possible.

    Of course, the work of Best Friends reaches far beyond the sanctuary itself. Best Friends works with communities across the nation to set up No More Homeless Pets programs that will soon bring an end altogether to the killing of abandoned animals in shelters.

    Kindness to animals makes a better world for all of us. So thank you once again for caring, and may all good things be yours in return for your kindness.

                              Chai

                     She's come a long way!

She may look like an innocent little pudge ball with Taco Bell ears, but she's seen tragedies you wouldn't imagine. She came from an animal hoarder who was shut down in California, where she never had any attention, love, or even enough to eat! She's lucky she's even still with us.

But Chai didn't get the chance to grow up into a normal little dog. When she arrived at Best Friends, folks couldn't even touch her. And it's still not easy to! She'll sit near you, pleading with her eyes -- she knows there's something she wants from you, this feeling, this affection -- but if you make a move, she'll skitter right back where she came from. She has no ability to trust. And yeah, if you push it, sadly, she has been known to give a little bite.

Chai is not currently up for adoption because she still needs to work on her behavior. But this seven year-old girl is slowly improving -- very slowly. She's learned at least that she likes treats, and will now beg for them. She's hoping you won't touch her when you give her the treat, but it's a step forward that she wants something from you and is willing to interact with you from a small distance in order to get it!
